About Amina Symone

Lock in with me!

Hi, I’m Amina — a storyteller, self-taught photographer, and proud solopreneur (for now). Growing up as the daughter of two entrepreneurs who prioritized community and uplifting Black voices, I learned early on the power of sharing stories.

My photography journey began in 2015 with a simple favor for my best friend pursuing her love for fashion, and it quickly turned into a passion. Within a year, I curated my first gallery, We Matter: Looking Inside Ourselves, highlighting Black teens in my hometown. In that short time, I’d discovered the magic of imagery to connect and inspire.

Fast forward to my time at the University of Maryland, where I honed my skills further as part of the Black student newspaper. I reported on entrepreneurship, crafted documentary-style video stories, and analyzed data-driven narratives. These experiences, combined with my first Big Girl job for a leading banking association focused on community development, sharpened my ability to communicate authentically and creatively with diverse audiences—from bank executives to everyday changemakers.

Today, I’m bringing those skills and values—authenticity, creativity, collaboration, and growth—into my work as a communications professional. I specialize in helping families, events, small businesses, and community-based organizations tell their stories in ways that resonate deeply and inspire action. Whether it’s a birthday shoot or a comprehensive marketing campaign, I thrive on versatility and love working with anyone ready to bring their vision to life.

When I’m not behind the camera or crafting your next big idea, you can find me coloring on my iPad, reading a good mystery/thriller, playing on my Nintendo Switch, brunching in the DMV, scrapbooking, or catching flights (and not feelings).
